What is reading?

Reading is the process of looking at series of written symbols (letters, punctuation marks and spaces) and getting meaning from them. We use our brain to convert them into words, sentences and paragraphs. There are two types of reading: loud reading and silent reading. Loud reading is when we use our voice to read to others while silent reading is when we read in our minds. Since reading is a receptive skill, we receive information through it to store in our minds.

What is listening?

Listening is a perceptive skill that involves identifying the sounds of speech and processing them into words and sentences. When listening, the ears receive the sounds and the brain converts them in meaningful messages.  This skill requires extreme attention and focus. People who have problems and difficulty concentrating are poor listeners. Remember listening and hearing are two completely different processes!
